Nha Trang’s rainy season starts just as the rest of Vietnam dries out, which is why so many visitors land in October with only beachwear and a boat trip booked. Most of the rain falls in short, heavy bursts after lunch, and the day is rarely lost. This guide covers the things to do in Nha Trang and Cam Ranh when it rains, with prices, opening hours and three half-day routes you can follow as they are.
What Rain Looks Like on This Coast
Nha Trang and Cam Ranh run their wet season from September to December, the reverse of most of Vietnam. Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City get their rain in summer, so visitors who planned around those cities often arrive here in October expecting dry weather.

October, November and December carry most of the year’s rain, and November is the heaviest. The month-by-month picture is laid out in the guide to the best time to visit Nha Trang. For planning a single day, it helps more to know which of three kinds of wet day you are looking at:
- An afternoon shower: a hard burst of 20 to 40 minutes, usually after lunch or in the evening, with a clear morning before it
- A wet spell: two to four grey days with rain on and off while a low sits offshore, when indoor plans are needed
- A storm warning: a tropical depression or typhoon passing nearby, when boats stop, flights slip and the sensible plan is to stay in
The third kind is uncommon but serious. In November 2025 the province recorded 500 to 700 mm of rain in a matter of days, and low-lying districts in the west of the city flooded. Follow official warnings and your hotel’s advice on those days.
The Three Wettest Months Compared
| Month | Typical high and low | Rainfall | Days of heavy rain |
|---|---|---|---|
| October | 29 and 24 degrees Celsius | About 260 mm | 3 to 4 |
| November | 28 and 24 degrees Celsius | About 370 mm | About 5 |
| December | 26 and 23 degrees Celsius | About 230 mm | 3 to 4 |
How to Choose for the Day You Have
The kind of rain decides most of the plan. On a shower day, it makes sense to keep the morning for the beach and pick one short indoor stop near lunch: the Yersin Museum, Dam Market or Long Son Pagoda each fill an hour. On a wet spell, choose one long stop instead, a mud bath or a cooking class, and build the day around it.

Who is travelling matters just as much, because children do best at the National Oceanographic Museum, a mud bath or the bowling lanes at Nha Trang Center, while couples tend to pair a spa session with the evening show at Do Theatre. Anyone staying on the Cam Ranh peninsula should weigh the 40-minute drive into the city against what the resort offers under its own roof.
None of these stops is expensive. Museums run from free to 40,000 VND (about 1.50 USD), a mud bath starts at 260,000 VND (about 10 USD) and the theatre at about 400,000 VND (about 15 USD). A full wet day in the city costs less than a boat trip would have, though each venue sets its own prices and hours, so check them before heading out.
8 Things to Do in Nha Trang When It Rains
Nha Trang’s wet-weather options sit within a short taxi ride of one another. These eight are the pick of the indoor things to do in Nha Trang, from those that fill a whole wet day to those that fill an hour.
Thap Ba Hot Spring – 438 Ngo Den
Thap Ba Hot Spring is the city’s long-established mud bath, a short drive inland from the Po Nagar Cham Towers that give it its name. Packages run from a simple soak in the mineral swimming pool to a private mud tub followed by hot-spring showers, and the price per person drops as the tub gets fuller.

A tub for one or two costs 350,000 VND each (about 13 USD), three to five people pay 300,000 VND, and groups of six or more 260,000 VND. Children between 1 m and 1.4 m tall pay less than half the adult price. A herbal mud option and a private hillside spa area sit above those.
It is plain and local in feel, which many visitors prefer, and warm rain only improves a hot soak. Pair it with Po Nagar on the same trip: the towers take under an hour and are easy to cover between showers, and the mud bath fills the rest of a grey afternoon.
Detailed Information:
- Address: 438 Ngo Den, Nha Trang
- From Bai Dai Beach: About 50 minutes by car
- Reference Price: Mineral pool 120,000 VND (about 4.50 USD); mud bath 260,000 to 350,000 VND (10 to 13 USD) per person
- Time Needed: About 2 hours
- Suits: Travellers pairing it with Po Nagar
National Oceanographic Museum – 1 Cau Da
The National Oceanographic Museum sits beside Cau Da port at the southern end of the city. It keeps about 23,000 specimens from 5,000 marine species, among them a giant clam weighing 145 kg, a king crab and a whale skeleton, with live tanks spread across 5,000 sqm.

Almost all of it is under cover, and it holds a child’s attention for longer than most museums, moving from open tanks of reef fish to halls of preserved specimens. A guide can be hired at the entrance for 60,000 VND (about 2.50 USD) per visit. Ticket prices and opening hours are set by the museum and can change, so confirm them before the drive.
It is the closest of the city’s sights to the Cam Ranh peninsula, near the coast road in from the airport, and it works as a first stop on the way into town. Early morning is quietest, before the tour coaches arrive.
Detailed Information:
- Address: 1 Cau Da, Nha Trang
- From Bai Dai Beach: About 35 minutes by car
- Opening Hours: 06:00 to 18:00 daily
- Reference Price: 40,000 VND adults (about 1.50 USD); students 20,000 VND; ages 6 to 16, 10,000 VND; under 6 free
- Time Needed: 1.5 to 2 hours
- Suits: Children and anyone arriving from Cam Ranh
Alexandre Yersin Museum – 10 Tran Phu
The Alexandre Yersin Museum is a single quiet floor inside the Pasteur Institute on the seafront. Yersin, the Swiss-born French doctor who identified the plague bacillus in 1894, made Nha Trang his home and died here in 1943. His library, laboratory instruments and telescope are displayed where he worked.

It takes 30 to 45 minutes. The museum opens on weekday mornings and afternoons, closes for a long break at midday and stays shut at weekends and on public holidays, so call the Pasteur Institute to confirm the hours before going. The room is rarely busy, even when the rest of the seafront is sheltering from a downpour.
Time it for a morning, then wait out the next shower over coffee: the seafront has plenty of cafes in Nha Trang and Cam Ranh with a covered view of the bay.
Detailed Information:
- Address: 10 Tran Phu, inside the Pasteur Institute
- From Bai Dai Beach: About 40 minutes by car
- Opening Hours: Weekday mornings and afternoons, closed at midday, weekends and public holidays
- Reference Price: About 20,000 to 26,000 VND (about 1 USD)
- Time Needed: 30 to 45 minutes
- Suits: History readers on a weekday morning
Long Son Pagoda – 22 Duong 23 Thang 10
Long Son Pagoda, founded in 1886 and moved to the foot of Trai Thuy hill after a storm in 1900, is the main Buddhist temple in the city. The prayer hall and its courtyard are sheltered, and rain suits the place: fewer tour groups, wet tiles, incense hanging in the damp air.

The 24-metre white Buddha, finished in 1965, sits on the hilltop behind. It is reached by 193 open stone steps, with a reclining Buddha seven metres long about a quarter of the way up.
The steps are slippery when wet and there is no lift. Anyone unsteady on their feet should stay with the lower halls. Entry is free and a donation is optional.
Detailed Information:
- Address: 22 Duong 23 Thang 10, Nha Trang
- From Bai Dai Beach: About 40 minutes by car
- Reference Price: Free entry
- Time Needed: About 45 minutes
- Suits: A break between showers
Do Theatre – Vega City, Pham Van Dong
Do Theatre takes its name and its shape from the do, a woven bamboo fish trap. Inside, it stages Life Puppets, a 60-minute show that combines water, string and shadow puppetry with contemporary dance, played to a live orchestra of traditional instruments.

The show starts at 18:00 on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and the doors close at the start. Arrive by 17:30. Seats come in three classes: Zodiac at 400,000 VND, Tiger at 450,000 VND and Dragon at 600,000 VND (15 to 23 USD), with about 30 percent off for children and older visitors. The theatre adjusts its calendar and prices through the year, so check the current schedule before booking.
It is the one fully indoor evening out in the city that is not a bar. The theatre stands at Bai Tien, north of the centre, which puts it almost an hour by road from the Cam Ranh peninsula. A shorter production, Chum Show, plays on Saturday and Sunday at 15:00, and a free shuttle runs from Nha Trang Center for anyone who registers a day ahead.
Detailed Information:
- Address: Vega City, Bai Tien, Pham Van Dong, Nha Trang
- From Bai Dai Beach: About 55 minutes by car
- Showtime: 18:00 on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday
- Reference Price: 400,000 to 600,000 VND adults (15 to 23 USD), by seat class
- Time Needed: 60-minute show
- Suits: Couples and families on a wet evening
Dam Market – Phan Boi Chau
Dam Market is the city’s central market, with covered halls of dried seafood, fish sauce, spices, clothing and souvenirs. It opens around dawn and trades until early evening, and a wet morning is when the food aisles are at their best.

Dried squid, shrimp and anchovies are what most visitors buy, sold by weight and wrapped for travel on request. Bargain politely, carry small notes, and keep bags closed in the tighter aisles.
The market is also a good place for breakfast or lunch, because its stalls serve the fish noodle soups and rice pancakes that head any list of what to eat in Nha Trang, at prices set for locals.
Detailed Information:
- Address: Phan Boi Chau Street, Nha Trang
- From Bai Dai Beach: About 40 minutes by car
- Opening Hours: About 05:00 to 18:30 daily
- Reference Price: Free entry; a bowl of noodle soup about 35,000 VND (about 1.50 USD)
- Time Needed: About 1 hour
- Suits: Food shoppers on a wet morning
Viet Garden Cooking Class – Vinh Diem Thuong
Viet Garden Cooking Class is run by Chef Dat, who grew up in Nha Trang. A session takes in a local market, a mat weaver’s workshop and a family home before three dishes are cooked and eaten together, with recipes sent on by email afterwards.

There are three sessions a day: 09:00 to about 14:00, 14:00 to 17:00, and an evening class from 17:30 to 20:30 that skips the weaver and catches the market at its busiest. The price is 55 USD per person (about 1,430,000 VND), drinks included.
Pick-up from central Nha Trang hotels is part of the price. Guests coming from Cam Ranh should arrange their own car to the city, and it is sensible to ask how the market visit runs in heavy rain when booking.
Detailed Information:
- Address: To 14, Vinh Diem Thuong, Vinh Hiep, Nha Trang
- From Bai Dai Beach: About 50 minutes by car
- Sessions: 09:00, 14:00 and 17:30
- Reference Price: 55 USD per person (about 1,430,000 VND)
- Time Needed: 3 to 5 hours
- Suits: Food lovers and couples
Nha Trang Center – 20 Tran Phu
Nha Trang Center is the seafront shopping mall most visitors pass without going in. On a wet day its third floor is the reason to go in: a Galaxy cinema, the Powerbowl bowling lanes with an arcade, and a games area for children from about three to fifteen, alongside Vietnamese and Korean restaurants.

The mall opens from 09:00 to 22:00, later than most of this list, which makes it the fallback when rain sets in after dark. Entry is free, and bowling, films and games are paid for at each counter.
It sits a short walk along Tran Phu from the Yersin Museum, and the two combine into one dry afternoon.
Detailed Information:
- Address: 20 Tran Phu, Nha Trang
- From Bai Dai Beach: About 40 minutes by car
- Opening Hours: 09:00 to 22:00 daily
- Reference Price: Free entry; bowling, cinema and games charged separately
- Time Needed: 1 to 3 hours
- Suits: Teenagers, and rain after dark
7 Things to Do in Cam Ranh When It Rains
The Cam Ranh peninsula has one covered sight of its own and, for guests of Alma Resort Cam Ranh on Bai Dai Beach, a run of indoor venues a buggy ride from the room. These seven save the 40-minute drive into the city on a wet day.
Tu Van Pagoda – 3 Thang 4, Cam Ranh
Tu Van Pagoda is Cam Ranh’s own rainy-day sight, and it lies in the opposite direction from Nha Trang. Monks began building it in 1968 and later covered almost every surface in seashells and coral, which is why locals call it the Shell Pagoda. The 39-metre Bao Tich Tower, built by hand between 1995 and 2000, rises over the garden.

The part that suits a wet day is underground. A tunnel known as the 18 Levels of Hell enters through a dragon’s mouth and winds for about 500 metres past painted scenes from Buddhist teaching. It is narrow, dim and out of the rain, and children love it.
Entry is free, including the tower and tunnel, and donations are welcome. The full story is in the guide to Tu Van Pagoda in Cam Ranh. Wear shoes with grip, since the shell-covered paths are slick after rain.
Detailed Information:
- Address: 3 Thang 4 Street, Cam Ranh
- From Bai Dai Beach: About 30 minutes by car
- Reference Price: Free entry; donations welcome
- Time Needed: About 1 hour
- Suits: Families staying on the peninsula
Le Spa – Resort Centre
Le Spa is where a grey afternoon at the resort tends to end up. Its 13 treatment villas, each named after a Vietnamese flower, stand apart from the pools, so it stays quiet.

The session built for this weather is the Sound Bath and Aromatherapy at 17:30, Tuesday to Saturday: an hour lying down while Tibetan singing bowls are played, for 350,000 VND (about 13 USD). The Signature Retreat joins a 50-minute Balinese massage, a sound bath and an hour of yoga for 1,900,000 VND (about 73 USD). Spa sessions and prices change with the season, so confirm the week’s timetable at Le Spa.
The sauna and steam room open twice a day, 07:00 to 09:30 and 15:00 to 17:00. Resident instructor Umesh Kumar Sharma, who trained in Rishikesh, teaches Beginners Yoga indoors at 06:30 from Tuesday to Sunday for 200,000 VND (about 8 USD). The spa heads the resort’s own list of spas in Cam Ranh.

Films are shown in English, Vietnamese, Korean or Russian, each with subtitles in a second language, and the board marks which are for over-13s or over-16s. It is easiest to check the listing at breakfast and choose a film for the afternoon.

- Suits: Families, and anyone caught by a downpour
Bravo Pro Golf Simulator – South Side
The Bravo Pro Golf Simulator is an indoor, air-conditioned bay where players hit real balls into an impact screen. The system tracks each shot, offers a choice of courses and lets you set the weather, which on a wet day means sunshine.

It costs 180,000 VND (about 7 USD) for 30 minutes, 250,000 VND (about 10 USD) for an hour and 450,000 VND (about 17 USD) for two. Coaching runs from 10:00 to 11:00, Tuesday to Saturday, at 500,000 VND (about 19 USD) for one player or 750,000 VND for two. Statue painting is 200,000 VND and claypot painting 150,000 VND (about 6 USD), and the Promotions Desk has the current list and prices.

For younger children, the Kids’ Classes follow a weekly timetable in the afternoon: cookies on Wednesdays and Saturdays, fruit shakes on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays, pizza making at 15:30 on Wednesdays, and cupcake decorating at 14:30 on Mondays and Thursdays.

Of the two journeys running at present, Titanic starts some 3,800 metres down at the wreck and then steps back to 1912 and the ship’s last night, while Gladiator walks the streets of ancient Rome and into the Colosseum. Each costs 399,000 VND (about 15 USD) a person, from age eight with an adult. The journeys on offer and their prices change from time to time, so ask at the Youth Club on the day.

What to Eat on a Wet Day
Two local dishes suit a wet day well: a hot fish noodle soup and rice pancakes cooked over charcoal. Both are served at covered street-side shops that open from early morning.
Bun Cha Ca and Bun Sua
Bun cha ca is the city’s signature bowl: rice vermicelli in a clear, lightly sweet fish broth, topped with slices of steamed and fried fish cake. Bun sua is the same soup with cubes of jellyfish added, crisp and almost flavourless, added for texture.

A bowl costs about 35,000 VND (about 1.50 USD) and arrives in two minutes, with a plate of herbs, shredded green mango and chilli on the side. It is breakfast for most locals, and the best shops sell out by early afternoon.
On the Cam Ranh side, the resort’s own noodle counter serves a Nha Trang Fish and Jelly Fish bowl. In the city, these are the long-running names:
- Noodle House, Alma Food Court: Alma Resort Cam Ranh, Bai Dai Beach
- Bun Sua Nam Beo: B2 Chung Cu Cho Dam, Phan Boi Chau, Nha Trang
- Bun Ca Nguyen Loan: 123 Ngo Gia Tu, Nha Trang
- Bun Ca Min: 170 Bach Dang, Nha Trang
- Bun Cha Ca Hanh Nhien: 32C Le Dai Hanh, Nha Trang
Banh Can
Banh can are small rice-flour pancakes cooked in clay moulds over charcoal, each topped with a quail egg, shrimp or squid. They come off the fire crisp at the edge and soft in the middle, and are dipped in thin fish sauce with grated green mango.

The charcoal stove is half the appeal on a wet evening. Tables order by the pair and keep ordering, and eight or ten pancakes still come to under 2 USD a person.
Well-known places for banh can:
- Banh Can 51: 51 To Hien Thanh, Nha Trang
- Banh Can Co Thuy: 134 Tran Quy Cap, Nha Trang
- Banh Can Ut Nam: 16 Pham Hong Thai, Nha Trang
- Banh Can Co Trang: 107 Duong 2 Thang 4, Nha Trang
Three Half-Day Routes for a Wet Day
Nha Trang’s indoor stops fall into three clusters, each easy to cover in half a day with one taxi out and one back. Guests coming from the peninsula can hire a driver for the half day, and typical rates are listed under Cam Ranh and Nha Trang car rental.
The South End: Museum First, Noodles After
Start at the National Oceanographic Museum early, by 08:00 to stay ahead of the coaches, and allow two hours. From Cam Ranh this is the nearest part of the city, about 35 minutes up the coast road.

Afterwards ride north to 123 Ngo Gia Tu for a bowl at Bun Ca Nguyen Loan before it sells out, then decide by the sky: back to the beach if it has cleared, or on to the centre if it has not.
The Centre: Yersin, Dam Market and the Mall
On a weekday, be at the Yersin Museum for 08:00, then take a short taxi ride to Dam Market for an hour in the dried-seafood aisles. Bun Sua Nam Beo is in the apartment block beside the market, so lunch is next door.

Spend the afternoon at Nha Trang Center, back on Tran Phu, with a film or an hour of bowling. At weekends, when the museum is closed, swap in Long Son Pagoda, a short ride west of the market.
The North Bank: Towers, Mud and a Show
Cross the river to Po Nagar Cham Towers in a dry gap. Entry is about 30,000 VND (about 1 USD) and the brick steps are slick after rain. Take them slowly. Thap Ba Hot Spring is a short drive inland for the long soak that follows.

On a show night, finish at Do Theatre, further north along Pham Van Dong. Leave the mud bath by 16:45 to reach the doors for 17:30.
Planning Around a Wet Forecast
A little planning turns the wet season from a gamble into a cheaper, quieter version of the same trip. Knowing the things to do in Nha Trang and Cam Ranh when it rains is the first step, and four habits help with the rest.
Mornings Outdoors, Indoor Plans After Lunch
Put the beach, the islands and the Cham towers before lunch, when the sky is most often clear, and keep the list above for the afternoon. In October about one morning in two starts dry. In November the rain is spread more evenly round the clock, so keep plans flexible.

It also helps to leave one day of the trip unplanned, so that when a wet spell settles in, the boat trip or beach morning that had to move can go there.
Boat Trips, the Cable Car and Storm Warnings
Island tours and dive boats are the first things to stop. The authorities suspend departures when a sea warning is issued, as they did for every boat in the province from 07:00 on 28 November 2025. The cable car to Hon Tre Island pauses in strong wind or lightning, and passengers are moved across by boat.

Watch for three signs that an island day should move: more than 20 mm of rain forecast for the day, a strong-wind or high-wave warning for Khanh Hoa waters, or a named storm in the East Sea. The national weather service at nchmf.gov.vn posts all three. Snorkelling is poor for a day or two after heavy rain in any case, because the bay turns cloudy.
When a tropical depression or typhoon is named, expect flights into Cam Ranh to be delayed, stay away from the seafront and rivers, and keep travel insurance details to hand. Insurance bought after a storm has been named does not usually cover that storm.
Booking So Plans Can Move

Book island tours close to the day with a small deposit, and ask what happens if the port closes. Choose room rates with free cancellation near arrival, which costs little in the low season. Check the change fee on flights before buying the cheapest fare.
What to Pack

The rain is warm, so the aim is to stay comfortable when wet. A few light things cover it:
- A thin rain jacket or poncho: umbrellas struggle in the sea wind
- Sandals that grip on wet tiles, since pagoda steps and market floors get slick
- A dry bag for phones and passports on boats and in taxis
- A second swimsuit, so one is always dry
- A light layer for air-conditioned museums, theatres and cinemas
A Wet Afternoon on Bai Dai Beach
On the Cam Ranh peninsula, where you sleep and eat matters as much as the activities above, because there is little indoors outside the resorts. Alma Resort Cam Ranh spreads across 30 hectares of Bai Dai Beach, and readers of Smart Travel Asia placed it sixth among the Best Spa Hotels in Asia in the 2025 Best in Travel Poll.

A wet-season stay goes better with space, and the 2 Bedrooms Villa, Private Pool, Beach Front gives a family 182 sqm of it on the ground floor. Both bedrooms are en suite, each with a bathtub and a rain shower, and the lounge has a dining table big enough for a board game.

The lounge opens onto a private terrace with a daybed and an infinity pool, and the sand begins where the terrace ends. In a shower the family can read indoors and watch the rain cross the bay, and when it stops, the sea is a few steps away.

The villa’s mini pantry is fitted with a microwave, a fridge, a kettle and a Nespresso machine. That is enough for coffee, hot chocolate and reheated leftovers on a morning when nobody wants to walk to breakfast, and the resort’s own shop, Alma Mart, sells snacks and drinks until 21:00.

The resort’s 12 pools stay open in ordinary rain and are as warm in a shower as in sunshine. Splash Water Park keeps running too, free for guests until 18:00, and its lifeguards close the slides only when a storm comes through.

Children shorter than 1.3 metres need an adult with them in the park. It is one reason the park features among the waterparks in Cam Ranh and Nha Trang, and on a grey day the queues for the slides disappear.

For lunch, Alma Food Court brings six outlets under one roof from 11:00 to 16:00, overseen by Chef Nguyen Duy Quyen. On a wet day, start at Noodle House. It serves Beef Pho and Hue Beef Noodle Soup at 200,000 VND (about 8 USD), and a Nha Trang Fish and Jelly Fish bowl at 180,000 VND (about 7 USD), the resort’s version of the city’s own bun sua.

The other counters cover the rest of the family. Vietnam Express sells banh mi at 110,000 VND (about 4 USD), Little New York does burgers and fried chicken, and French Bakery has Paris-Saigon pastries. Coconut Coffee from the Espresso Bar, 130,000 VND (about 5 USD), is a good way to sit out the next shower.

For dinner on a wet evening, La Casa is the resort’s Italian restaurant, led by Chef Nguyen Huu Luat. The pasta is made in house, and the Spaghetti With Lobster, tossed in lobster bisque with cherry tomatoes, costs 695,000 VND (about 27 USD). The La Casa pizza, with fior di latte, rocket, Parma ham and burrata, is 495,000 VND (about 19 USD).

Conclusion
Rain on this coast is mostly a matter of timing: clear mornings, a hard shower after lunch, and now and then a few grey days in a row. With a mud bath, museums, pagodas and a puppet theatre within a short ride, the things to do in Nha Trang and Cam Ranh when it rains fill a week. Prices and hours here are approximate. Reconfirm before you set out.
On the peninsula, Alma Resort Cam Ranh keeps the day going under cover, from the Cinema and the Golf Simulator to Le Spa’s sound bath at dusk and dinner at La Casa. Plan a wet-season stay and let the weather choose between the beach and the villa pool.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it rain all day in Nha Trang in November?
Rarely. Most November rain falls in heavy bursts, although a low offshore can bring several grey days in a row, and a couple of very wet days account for close to half the month’s rain.
Is Nha Trang worth visiting in October?
Yes, for travellers who can be flexible. About one morning in two starts dry, prices and crowds are lower, and a resort with indoor facilities, such as Alma Resort Cam Ranh with its cinema and spa, covers the wet afternoons.
Can you swim in Nha Trang during the rainy season?
Pools stay warm and open in ordinary rain, and at Alma Resort Cam Ranh the 12 pools and Splash Water Park run until 18:00. The sea is rougher from October to December, so swim only where no red flag is flying.
Does Nha Trang get typhoons?
Occasionally, mostly in October and November. The bay is more sheltered than the coast further north, but warnings should always be taken seriously.
What can kids do in Nha Trang when it rains?
The Oceanographic Museum, a mud bath and the puppet show at Do Theatre all work well with children. On the Cam Ranh side, Alma Resort Cam Ranh has a 75-seat cinema, a free Technology Experience Center and afternoon cooking classes for children.
